Ciaran Hurson is a typographic lead branding designer, based in Belfast.

I admire the considered nature of Hurson's work, from brand design, to annual reports, to editorial design.

The Irish News

Hurson developed a relaunch advertising campaign for The Irish News. The campaign aims to promote the fresh look of the newspaper and reaffirm its commitment to quality journalism, the search for truth and the importance of holding those in trusted positions to their word, representing the community and encouraging debate and around the issues that matter most. The campaign featured treatments referencing News, Opinion, Business, Sport, Business and Irish Language.

The Night Institute

‘The Night Institute’ is a progressive entity rooted in club culture and is now beginning to populate other areas of interest such as film production, the arts, clothing and community based initiatives. Ciaran Hurson developed the identity, with a logo type, icon, typography and art direction. The clean, graphic style uses shape and colour to great effect.

Self Reflection

As a local designer, I admire how Ciaran Hurson’s work manages to have international appeal. In a design landscape full of over-designed visuals, his approach feels refreshingly considered. He uses graphic elements in a way that lets the business or product speak for itself. No bells and whistles, just thoughtful design. His work makes me reflect on how I use design elements myself, and reminds me to stay focused on the core principles. It’s not about cramming everything you’ve ever learned into one project, it’s about knowing what’s enough, and what best brings a brand to life.
